"Where I Dream of": My First Try at Digital Oil Painting

This is my first try at using digital oil brushes. I used the Memilio Impasto Brushes  I hope you enjoy. I submitted this for the upcoming “SLC Queer” exhibition at the Urban Arts Gallery. I have been doing physical oil painting for a while now and various other kinds of digital art but I’ve never used digital oil painting brushes. I am very pleasantly surprised at how well it turned out. Let me know your thoughts :heart_hands:

As far as techniques I used a good amount of alpha masking with lots of layers in order to allow me to paint the highlights over the trees without affecting their overall shape. I also used the gradient tool to make a reference background before painting over it as a visual aid. Additionally, before I started the painting I preselected my color palette in order to maximize it’s aesthetic qualities (rather than trying to pick colors that fit halfway in). I also used a variety of the oil paint brushes rather than just sticking with one. I also used a transform mask to non-destructively resize the sun because it was too large when I initially painted it, another reason why I enjoy working in many layers.

Let me be the first of what I think may be many who say, congratulations on your work, and thank you for posting it. The color scheme is eye catching and in my opinion quite appealing. The composition conveys the message perfectly. Makes me wish I was there now, relaxing in the setting sun, (assuming it is setting). Regardless, I like it either way.
