Hi,
As soon as I read Wacom finally had a replacement for the Art Pen and it was compatible with my Wacom 14 pro android tablet I ordered on. The barel roll feature is the most important part for me.
I was wondering if this feature is soon to be included? Since the barel roll feature on the latest version of Krita on android does not yet work. (its been a month and a bit since the release of the art pen 2 so I know I might be a bit impatient )
And it will be in the next release of Krita when it comes out. There’s no timeline set on a release date as far as I’m aware, but if you’re impatient, just use the test version linked above. It’s what would be in the next version of Krita if it were released today.
Edit: changed the link to Dmitry’s test instead of last night’s nightly, since that’s the current thing.
I asked Dmitry, apparently that’s expected. It’s not in his test version because the work on that stuff started before that change made it in and he didn’t update it afterwards, the barrel rotation isn’t really relevant to what he’s testing.
I guess before going on checking it with Krita, can you see how Drawpile behaves? That definitely has the new Qt build in it. The appropriate download is at https://github.com/drawpile/Drawpile/releases/tag/continuous under “Assets” the “Android APK bit” download.
Help → Tablet Tester should show you the barrel roll in the output as R= and then some amount of degrees, Tools → Developer Tools → Debug Input Events should show the RZ axis changing when you roll the stylus and if you configure a MyPaint brush to make use of the input it should react accordingly. You can try manipulating the classic Knife brush and change its “Elliptical dab: angle” from Direction to Barrel Rotation.
For my devices it’s definitely not tilt-dependent, but I don’t have a stylus with barrel rotation either, so it’s worth checking to make sure. If it works there and not Krita, then presumably the change somehow didn’t actually get built as it was supposed to.
Okay yes, that is working as expected then. MyPaint brushes are definitely a bit tricky to configure, but if the input shows the rotation angle, that shows it’s working.
Looking at the nightlies, it seems like the builds for them are failing and so they haven’t been updated since May, but that appears to be an infrastructure issue being worked on. The Krita Plus build is already back, so maybe that has the barrel rotation in it? So maybe try that: https://cdn.kde.org/ci-builds/graphics/krita/krita-6.0/android-arm64-v8a/
That’s the one! I can confirm barrel rotation is working in that built.
Awesome! Now I can just patiently wait until it makes it to a future release knowing it once was in there at least
Thanks @Drawpile for helping me navigate this issue!
Cool, happy we finally got there. Then you can use that and the next stable release should have it in there. If you find any problems with it, let me know.
