Zoom Problems with XP-Pen 22 Artist Pro

I’ve been having trouble with Krita recently. Every time I swap from the Krita app to say, my browser, the zoom breaks. The mouse wheel won’t zoom the canvas and even if I zoom in manually, after a few seconds it zooms back out to 56%. It only happens after I minimize the Krita window and come back to it, any advice or possible fixes would be most appreciated!

I use an XP-Pen 22 Artist Pro drawing tablet and have windows installed

Hello and welcome to the forum

Which version number of krita are you using?

Has this happened after some ‘significant event’ such as updating your version of krita, a Windows update, adding some new peripheral to your computer, etc?

How exactly do you ‘zoom in manually’?

Does zooming work if you press and hold Ctrl+Spacebar and move your stylus vertically up and down on the tablet?

Gonna be honest, I didn’t even know the ctrl+spacebar thing was a thing, and that’s just blown my mind

As for the version I’m using, that would be 4.4.7, I recently deleted and reinstalled the app in hopes of that working, and in all honesty, I had to download a few new things to be able to work from home so, I’ve been wondering if something there could have been messing with it, but I don’t really know for sure

Does it work to zoom the canvas in and out?

What was the method you used to ‘zoom in manually’?

People often try that and it doesn’t change anything because the look, feel and behaviour of krita is controlled by various settings/configuration files that are not affected by reinstallation or a version upgrade.

I doubt if any other application would have this effect.
Are you only running the browser at the same time as krita?

Does your XP-Pen tablet seem to work normally for pressure sensitivity when painting and use of its stylus buttons?

Going back to this:

Was there a time when you didn’t have this problem?

Have you made any changes to the XP-Pen settings in its driver utility and have you made any changes to the settings, options and shortcut settings inside krita?

Would you feel comfortable and capable of using the File Explorer to find the settings/configuration files so that you can delete them to give krita fresh default settings?

So it does work, until the zoom breaks, and then it stops working
The ‘manual zoom’ was just me scrolling the mouse wheel, I think I just described it poorly
Usually yeah, sometimes I’ll have Twitch or Discord in the background too but usually it’s just the browser
Tablet works perfectly fine itself, can still paint on the canvas, just can’t zoom, and the stylus buttons all work fine
I’ve never had this or really any problems with krita until now, and I’ve had it for about a year
No changes made to the XP-Pen settings in the driver utility and no changes to krita’s settings, options or shortcuts
Comfortable yes capable less so, but I can always ask my boyfriend to help with that one, I did try resetting the configuration today which seemed to work but, ended up with the same problem

The main difference I’ve noticed is at the bottom right of the screen where the zoom tab usually is, there’s now a rotation button, which has started randomly rotation the canvas as well, I’m pretty sure that wasn’t there before and I have no idea how it got there
It’s as if the zoom and rotation just have a mind of their own

Also I apologize greatly for the wall of text this will no doubt be

I’ve changed the title of your topic to attract the attention of anyone who has the same or similar tablet.

That rotation control icon first appeared in version 4.4.3 so you must have updated to 4.4.7 from a version before 4.4.3. It’s a good and useful control.

How do you know that it’s the rotation control button which randomly rotates the canvas?
Do the randomly occuring rotations happen at any time or do they happen when you have the cursor near that rotation contol icon?
When it happens, does it rotate in definite 15 degree steps or is it a random amount that could have a range of values?

When you’re not using the stylus, do you leave it resting on the surface of the tablet?
If so, you shouldn’t, it should be kept away from the tablet surface if you’re not using it.

You’ve recently updated krita to the latest version, which is a good thing to do, and I suggest that you update the XP-Pen tablet driver to the latest version for your model that you can download from the XP-Pen website.
This is also a good thing to do anyway and it’s amazing how many problems are fixed by updating to the latest tablet driver.

Before you install the new latest tablet driver, do the following:
Disconnect the tablet and uninstall the current tablet driver and anything else called XP-Pen-whatever.
Do a full power down restart of your computer, not Sleep or Hibernate, do a full power down restart.

Install the new tablet driver by following the instructions in the tablet manual (which you can also get from the XP-Pen website).
I don’t know if the XP-Pen driver tablet utility has the ability to create different profiles for different applications. If it does, create a profile for krita and always select that profile when making any changes to the settings in there.
Adjust the settings to have them as before then close the setup utility and start krita.
If the problem is still there then more digging will be needed.
