I will try do do more sketches and why not trying more study at the same time. And for having a bit more motivation I needeed to include a lafloe in the first post, enven if this from april.

No problem, well Iâm a bit late to answer sorry about that, in fact I just seen your question today. For practice I really donât mind, if itâs inspire you to test whatever you want, then even better. As long as you are human feel free to use ^^.
I finished it, so letâs go with making the 2025 snake digitally. I may need to correct their face.
I was going to redraw an old illustration, trying to include a real environement even if itâs not really the focus, and got stuck when drawing the second character present in : Shwodwin (or Sh since I will to lazy to write itâs full name).
I could not feet his head or neck, couldânt make sens of how the environement fit him and even less keep the focus on character 1 with him being⊠well him and here. And he canât be be ousted just because he isnât the focus, since he does have importance in the representation. Well just going without the environnement give a easy solution but then whatâs the point of redoing it ? Basically it was a mess.
Here comme the thing, itâs been years since I created Sh and his design is⊠hum not too bad but no good event a tiny bit. So why not remake him and finally redo this old illustration with new Sh and the environnement 'cause new sh will resolve all my problem. Not at all, but I will keep this logical delusion a bit longer.
First error, I directly go with a messy sketch, it can work bur hereâŠ
Without a good idea of how I want him to turn out itâs only the begening of a bad place ending worse. Creating a new layer, doing a new variation, being disapointeed by it and deleting the layer. And redo !
I also keeped running away from it with traditionnal painting and sketch, but drawin my cat when she look like a round bread is addictive.
A test survivor, I liked the little one in the corner and used it for the one underneath.
The best sketch at that time (hope I will do better) and I wasnât satisfied. Sure playing with draneria brush was fun, and honestly I want to use them more, but as for Sh⊠event the brush canât save him.
I finally realised that maybe I didnât take the right approach. Sometime Iâm like a bull, itâs only ten kilometer later that I realize I didnât take the right turn.
And so I go back to the base, who is Sh :
- A sea dragon whose species are exctinct : and of course I never bothered myself with imagining how they look Maybe itâs the time.
- But they were intelligent and empathic : Going with a dolphin head make sens then, so letâs keep it.
- Theyâre biologgical difference betwen Sh and his species : Sh deeper water and he can be fancier.
- Sh is driven by revenge : Need to make something sharper in his apparence but keep a balance specially since later his focus become on 'How to be a father ? Help the cub keep doing dangerous things".
I will need to keep that in mind but first I did three possible general structure. Not fan of C so I will not explore it, A a bit affraid to be stuck in a new loop and B is really different. So I will go with A or B, maybe test a bit of the two, but before that I need to finish the tratitional watercolor begun because of Sh.
When searching for seabed creature there was this picture, not a scarry fish not the weirdess animal, but quite a cute one.
So after a sketch I tested and keeped the hears.
Without a neck it will give me a headache for the illustration however I quite like this base.
On another subject I finally tried doing this type of nose.
I like those Dumbo Octopuses! They are somewhat cute.

Yeah, theirs big head/torso with theirs littles eyes is cute, but the ears make them even cuter.
Sh advance : not much was done his species isnât finalised, but I discovered that if I double the ears it double the hapiness in drawing. Not the best pose to test things but not the worst.
I used theses brushes for having a bit of fun with a rejected idea for this month challenge :
When painting traditionnaly I principally use watercolor wich doesnât have this thickness in the paint, that was a nice change.
Did an alternative adaptation, a cuter one.
I will finish the species soon (just need to add the description) and attack Sh, but these last days were pretty busy and it will continue for a bit so he will be probably take more time⊠I feel like will never do this redraw.
After adding the color to the line from the day before did two head and feel like Iâve forgotten every thing about head and face, the eye is definitively wrong. And since I was too tired I just gone doodling.
Going to take a breath will be good, maybe more doodling and after the busy period correct it.

Taking a breath, being all happy and finding a way to twist some back muscles done. I donât even know ho I ended up with the last one, but the good point is that Iâm temporally excempted from physical labor wich mean more time for sketching (and the need to take a pause every ten minute and just laying flat waiting for the pain to pass) and reading.
The three head is done from a reference : some clothing shop or something like that (not sure where).

I feel like itâs better and worse at the same time.
I redraw the base, correct the sketch, delete the base and discovers that the correction is wrong, and repeat. I tried to clear my mind with another drawing, and when coming back I realised something : I donât know precisely whatâs wrong so how can I correct it ?
So the first step should be to identify accurately the error, 'cause the fleeting feeling of âsomthing wrong with the eyeâ is too vague in this case. Meanwhile :

Have a bit of fun with the ink brush of krita and working on face. 06 give more a shy feeling than a âIâm coldâ one, but Dip Pen Dilued was nice I should try it more. I also need to work on this angle.
Wip : Drawing hair tire me out, so Iâhve done the second card (not that Iâm more motivated to to the rest of hairâŠ)
Motif search :
The color choice and flowing lines of the sea creature motif is really nice. I can totally see it as a tattoo on one of your characters.
Thanks, keeping the shape flowing is good to translate the water element and Iâm happy with this part. But at the same time I feel like itâs lacking a bit of an edge, so I struggle to see how to make thing sharper and keeping things smooth at the same time. Sorry for rambling.

On another note :
The line is nearly done, but thereâs a little bit of hair remaining urgh⊠So for escaping it some quick sketches.
I had started colouring the skin but it didnât go well and I know when I struggle that way I need to take a step back or the result would be strange. So I returned with the flat color and think about what didnât work, there where some littles things, but the principal was :
- I was going for the details too fast. (Itâs a bad habit)
- It wasnât clear about the colour of the principal light, and keep thinking if I needed a second weak light source or not, so the shadow were event worst.
To solve it first establish a global and simple shadow without thinking about color, just to block the basic shap of it and know where I want the light source. I found a good reference for light and shadow on face (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/6a0Par), wich make it easier to keep thing simple and to limit myself at two color.
Then I need to think about wich color pick for the light so to adjust the color of the block. With the back I guess a light blue and not a neutral one ?
And after that I can attack the colouring, and only after look if I need a second light and if yes paint over. At least this is the plan.
Fast painting of a bird, the reference come from a book who have a bunch of beautiful pic about nature.
No sketches only wip this time.
I honestly couldnât keep it with colored light and how itâs affected by environment and how the whole thing affect the color of shadow, so go simpler, itâs easier to detail the shadow like that (somes seems to have been recolored too light ?). It would need some adjustement at the end of this step thought, but this time I keeped a flat colored layer for easy selection later so it shouldnât be as tiem consuming.
I always struggle with Meishaâs skin (the girl), too pale then too tanned and too pale again.
On another note, Sh wasnât forgotten. I did the flat and now Iâm doing the draft of the motif. When drafting I constated that the little tooth than on the sketch give more edge than on the sketch, so I will adjust the motif to search for this balance.
Before automn I should be able to do that redraw⊠probably.
I had a color palette in mind, but when doing thing properly I ended up with with this other possibility wich is quite nice. I could also just go with the color can change so it will be convenient to change depending on the illustration. Not sure about wich one to take. And since multiple hesitation is always near, now I think maybe less motif is better than adding it on the whole body, but itâs a bit too emptyâŠ
I probably nee to take a bit of time on that and redirect the thinking on the right track.
On another subject I finished an old waiting for month, the result is as I expected ⊠bad. The home is a catastrophe, probably why I didnât want to finish it until now. Time to redesign it and that this one willl be another idea wich donât exactly work. It look too much like a tree and a home and not enought like an entity.
Weeping willow (I think itâs the english name) gave until now the best result, so event if Iâm absolutely the worst at drawing them I donât really want to search with other tree. The good point for other tree itâs their name will sound better when writing a description.
And anothe fast study of bird for relaxing. I wanted to keep it at three value but itâs harder that I imagined and there are more.
