I’m not sure if I will survive the whole month, but let’s give it a go…!
Below is my first entry. It took an absurd amount of time, I need to keep it simple. Once I had the sketch, I realized there’s no way I can shade it properly with just black and white in such a short amount of time I used some screentones and random scratches that I’m not super fond of, but yeah, it’s all I could manage. Let’s go!
I’m a big fan of So I’m a Spider, So What? and wanted to draw fan art of it for a while. Well, now’s the time! Below is my take on White (Shiraori), with her spiders. This one was a bit better, under 3 hours…
OK. Something highly experimental today. No cute anime girls though
If drawings were dad jokes, this would be one of them. This piece makes heavy use of Ramon’s new inking brushes, basically all the textures and even some lines are done with it (thin lines around the monitor). Main lineart is done with “d) Ink-4 Pen Rough”, which I started to appreciate a lot. I didn’t use halftones this time as I’m not super fond of them if the image is viewed at any other scale than 100%. I guess there’s a reason why they are made for printing
Oh, and the text tool was a star of this one, too. I filled it with 80x24 characters and used the perspective transform mask to place it on the screen in a lossless fashion. It’s a bit small, but I didn’t want to deviate from reality too much.
Good starting point. I think is a good use of “path” word. It could be because the computers guided us to another Generation of mankind.
Thanks for testing the brushes.
Honestly, I wish I could have done a better job with the anatomy and shading, clothing folds… but sadly, I need to study way, way more to do it properly Yup, it will take time. At least I know it’s not too great, that’s the first step
Today I’m deviating from the strict ink… Not sure if it’s bending the rules but I got encouraged by other entries Also, please forgive me for botching the perspective a bit… Oh well, that’s what happens when you’re rushing.
Today’s entry is for all about nostalgia… I can’t remember how many times I did this level
Huh… “golden”… My mind is blank. Let’s draw a cute anime girl
This really caused me some trouble, especially the hand. And I kind of got tired of the sad grays, so today it’s something colorful. Wait, does that still count as Inktober? Well, at least the lineart is decisively done in ink
THIS MONITOR LOOKS SO GOOD OMG I LOVE THIS INKING
“public class HelloWorld {
public static void main(String args) {
// Prints “Hello, World” in the terminal window.
System.out.println(“Hello, World”);
}
}” LOOKING DUDE
hehe, just made me think of something I recently found thank to Ramon: The Studio Behind the Attack on Titan Anime
Around minute 10 one guy just grabs his smartphone and takes some selfies, text popup:
“Habit #3: Your best reference is yourself”
And in the documentary about Sakamoto Shin-ichi you can also witness some tracing of a photo of his assistant wearing clothes with lots of lace.
So it’s official, that’s a professional approach
So much cool stuff, I need to watch the rest tagged “Anime and Manga Spotlight” before they take it down as video-on-demand…
Btw. the right hand in #6 seems to be at an impossible angle, but I’d also totaly fail without a mirror…
There was an excellent artist who specialized in Western scenes and he used tracing to save time. He had pointed out that he still has to fill in what was drawn and showed that he certainly was capable of drawing from a reference freehanded. That silenced his opposers about tracing.
So, go for it if it saves you time. (I’ve done it also at times). You still have to fill it in.
