Krita UI Icons - To be proposed

I vote for this variant  Clear and simple. Another reason is also that the removed line was in the wrong direction. Looked like it was drawn with the pen tilting wrong. Maybe that’s being nitpicky but still could be confusing.

Anyway @EyeOdin, great work on all your suggestions and the effort!

sorry for the long time to get back to this but scripting took me a while and I still am working on it, but I did the update I wanted to do.

How does this feel? I am undecided on some especially on the multibrush.
But I feel they look much cleaner.

I guess more like a snowflake would be more undrestandable

I think these 2 are the best versions of multibrush. I think I prefer the left version though. At 100% scale, it’ll be a bit easier to see that there are 3 brushes in the icon.

I think this is the better calligraphy icon. With the š“Ŗ icon, it’s not clear whether that’s text or calligraphy.

This is the better gradient icon because it more accurately reflects how the tool works, IIRC.

calligraphy is wiggly text after all. I find the pen tool misleading because it is the bƩzier tool in every other program. it is the same reasoning to give a brush to the free hand tool, as all other programs use the same annotation for it.

Define every other program? That hasn’t been my experience. Every program I’ve used that had a calligraphy tool used a calligraphy pen as the icon. Even if the calligraphy pen is used as a bezier tool icon in other programs, that’s bad iconography. Should Krita really follow in their missteps?

The brush as a freehand tool in Krita makes sense because it’s actually like you’re using a paintbrush.

Adobe illustrator, My Paint, Inkscape (if you look at the mouse). Should I search for more?

Forgot about the inkscape cursor, but they should probably change their cursor to match their icons then. I still think it makes more sense to use an icon that represents bezier curves for bezier curves and a calligraphy pen for calligraphy.

I think it is useful to use uniformity to include new users when they come in.
Truth is people expect something when they see that icon because it is common knowledge. They should relay the same message to everyone.

oh really @Grum999 ? nice \o/

I will just touch up one last one and call the toolbox done.

I think I can tweak slightly the layer box too, just to clean the pixalation effect they have maybe.

I also have a small idea for a icon change but it might have a hard no given to it.
But I will do it none the less someone likes. This thought came in line with something @fullerhill_art did that I thought was very iconic and make the logo really scale up well for the UI.

I still need to know how to submit these after.

This assumes that most new users will come from other painting programs. Being a free painting app, Krita is likely to be the first serious painting app used by many in the coming years.

Wow there’s been bit of progress in this topic since I last visited! I agree with @Grum999 that this icon looks nice!

For submitting these icons, I guess once the full list is finalised you could make a Google Docs proposal? I’d be happy to help if you want, the list might need a bit more discussion though.

Great job with this topic anyway!

You’re designing these for 16x16, right?

how does that work? you make proposals on google docs? a tad confused
