I don’t know, I’ve seen plenty of NSFW material where the characters were fully clothed…oops I shouldn’t have said that.

@Off_Shao_Werewolf Nudity is only one reason for an NSFW tag. Since we allow children of 13 to join the fourm we have to be more sensitive than other sites.
EDIT: Add - But please know NSFW work is welcome here. We just have to blur it and exclude it from the monthly challenge submissions.

Latest WIP. Still pondering how I want the bottom half of Kiki and the saddle/bridle to look like. This is a slow time of year for my pet portrait orders, so I let myself revert to detailed style for this challenge. I’ve taken my time in using this piece to try new (to me) painting methods and tools in Krita… like the lasso tool and clip mask layers, which I hadn’t tried before. I usually don’t use layers much in my pet portraits, but I’m seeing the advantage of many layers now with this one. I feel the need to be able to make a clipping group inside a clipping group sometimes… I’ll have to look into that and see if it’s possible.
I changed the background to black temporarily… but I kinda like the contrast. As of yet, I have no idea on background for this one… any suggestions?
Anyway… I’m enjoying spending way too much time on this piece

Im so anxious when starting to paint colors.
I dont usually use Soft Brush and Lasso Tool so its nice practice

Black is always my go to background while working on a project. Helps things stand out. Your work always looks so polished and professional 
. Unless your not comfortable giving away info or advice can I ask what brushes you use? Also do you go with the traditional color palette or have some custom graphics or designs that you pull from? I’m curious because I’m fascinated with your level of work. I know you have said in the past that you’ve worked as an artist professionally and it shows.

OMG! How could we ever compete with that level of detail? It’s great! As a suggestion for the background, Kiki seems like in a good position to be painting her own background, and I see it as an arch coming from the bottom left corner… Either a stone arch or a rainbow, I don’t know. What do you think?

Thanks for the compliments @Bobrowsdower ! I am more than happy to talk about all aspects of my own and anyone else’s painting. I use Krita’s standard brush packs most of the time. On this piece, I mostly used the Soft Airbrush. It seemed to work better with all the chrome reflections.
I also used the Basic 5 opacity brush for harder lines here and there. I use the traditional color palette.

Thanks for sharing. I’ll PM u if I wanna pick your brain but for now I’m inspired by your accomplishments with the basic brush set and traditional color palette. That’s what I use 99% of the time because I want to focus more on the process rather than the tools but that’s just me. The great thing about Krita is you can do both! I will be checking out those brushes BTW thanks again.

You’re really throwing the gauntlet down this month! And here I am still stuck in ideation… 
This always seems to happen when I try to get started early - I end up doing lots of sketches until I’m running out of time, then have to rush again at the end!
I don’t think you need to worry about that - the point of having a WIP thread is to enable feedback, discussion and learning.

I had to force myself to stop sketching and erasing over and over too! I just stopped and started inventing as I went. I have been going back and doing a little color and contrast adjustments.
