Taking the “don’t think, just draw random shapes” approach. (AKA incomprehensible weirdness doodles.) Fun, but might be difficult to refine into anything.
I did the optional challenge- one layer, no undo. It just means thinking about it more like an analog drawing/painting. Although even with digital I usually keep to a small number of layers and I’m not in the habit of reflexively using undo, so for me it’s not a big deal anyway.
There are so many really cool “realistic” alien still-life entries!
I thought I’d try my hand at something a bit more abstract and minimalistic… but is it enough?
Playing around with the rbw) Magic Hue brush after watching the video “The Best Of…RAKURRI´s BRUSHES for KRITA +interview” by Ramon. Not many undos and erasers here, but I did use them, so no extra credit for me on this one.
I am submitting my recent artwork under the classical still life category. This piece is titled Red Moon. Red Moon features a cursed Jonin Ninja who slaughters every breathing being every time the moon turns red and that happens once every 10,000 years. She was cursed in exchange for her immortality.
Hm I have my doubts this qualifies as still life…
From Wikipedia:
A still life (pl.: still lifes) is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which are either natural (food, flowers, dead animals, plants, rocks, shells, etc.) or human-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, coins, pipes, etc.).
To me t his looks like a character portrait and thus off-topic, but I’m not the one to judge…
I moved your artwork and the replies into the WIPs and Discussion Thread for the challenge.
The artwork is great but it doesn’t follow the brief given for the challenge. If you take another look through the brief, perhaps it will inspire another idea?
I hope I can actually finish this, took me way too long to come up with an idea, and when looking for more object references it hit me like a truck: This topic screams for a Steampunk scene, but now I don’t have time to change my mind again
You still need a bit of fantasy to identify the topic because I’ve focused on the head so far, but I’m kinda proud I came up with a face I like without following some specific reference.
