“Recharge” (2026) - An attempt to create a splash art illustration featuring the legendary Kiki the Cyber Squirel, the official mascot of Krita. Eventually, I decided to turn it into a larger package, including a big “making of” tutorial, a brush bundle etc. (with the intention of gifting it to the Krita Project.) The last slide shows a mockup of the loading window.
The fact that this is not just a paintover based on a Blender scene is crazy. In fact, in seems 3D-programs were not even part of the process (shown here: kiki-splash-art/03_making_of at master · zegalur/kiki-splash-art · GitHub).
How anyone can have such a feel for volume and material/reflection is beyond me.
The only thing I miss a bit is an explanation of what Kiki is actually doing in this pose. Is she drawing an analogue painting with digital tools? Or digitalising an traditional sketch?
My idea was that she’s studying the sketches she made, mentally preparing herself to work on a large canvas. But yeah - it is not clear. This is the kind of thing I wish I had thought through better. I now have tons of ideas on how I could made it much better, like, giving her a pencil and replacing the palette with a 3D hologram reference, etc.
A lot of cool ideas and an amazing rendering. I really liked the timelapse you posted on Insta https://www.instagram.com/zegalur/ with the thumbnails and composition research.
Congratulations! Your artwork has been voted into the featured artwork gallery row.

Absolutely, I’ll be honored.
Name: “Pavlo Savchuk (aka zegalur)“ - or, if it’s too long, just “zegalur” (small ‘z’). Feel free to use any process image or any other visual from the “making of“ tutorial as well.
