No, actually! I’ve seen it’s announcement times ago but haven’t check it out since I’m actually happy with my layers/brushes layout and barely have a need to dive into canvas-only mode I’ll definitely look into it!
Actions for deselect/undo/redo are the most certainly should be buttons so they would be accessible within one click.
About the general toolbox layout thingies I was thinking about something in vein of procreate, they got the most used actions accessible right away with alternative modes hidden behind dropdown menus(even more: sliders and undo/redo are just under the right thumb so the time to tweak those would be minimal).
I’m not a fan of this all-over-the-place layout and think tools should be all in one place(it’s not like they don’t have space on top of those sliders on the right) and yours is a much better design in that aspect, but they certainly had different aspect ratio limitations/thoughts/apple guidelines to care about so no judgement here. But as a reference point for touch-only interface Procreate atm is the most obvious and generally comfy-enough choice/option.
I’ve tested this version a little and have some feedback:
It seems the plugin doesn’t save previously selected/changed things permanently. I.e. if I’ve changed my fill tool to a gradient tool on the next launch this change would be lost and I have to set it again.
A delay option in the settings isn’t saved as well, not after a re-launch of Krita nor if a settings popup is closed and opened again(I suppose in the latter case it simply doesn’t read the previously set up value).
After some more testing I can confirm a somehow unreliable behaviour on windows surface tablet with a long press to open an additional tools shelves. The problem with it is that it’s clashing with a system-wide long press to emulate a right button click. I think that maybe it could be possible to add an option to open shelves with double click event since to reliably open those I have to do a double click anyway(a click and right after a longer press so windows wouldn’t register it as a one long press).
Other that that( and inability atm to deselect all with one click) it’s a huge improvement for a touch-on-a-go workflow, thank you for your work!
The retention of settings is something I’m working on, learning how .json files work and all. For double click, I would consider that as another setting.
I have noticed a problem with Qt on how it treats different displays; if you have dual monitors, the popup only shows on the primary screen, and there are resizing issues on Wacom display tablets.
I’ll have to look if there are some checks I can do, does Kanvas Buddy have popups?
Have you seen @Rakurri’s explanation on how to disable the right click behaviour?
Yes I have. As I tried to explain earlier(although failed it seems due to my poor english) in my case this windows behaviour is intentional. Unlike Android/iOS and other touch-primary operating systems Windows relies heavily on right-click actions and there is no other way to have them other than this, i.e. simulate those in some way, the easiest be long-press for right click. Therefore disabling it is not an option in my case since surface is a tablet and it should be usable on the go without any other hids.
After many failed attempts, I was on the brink of getting this double-click button working, but once again there seems to be a problem with how Qt handles its showEvent loop for the menu; it changes the position of the menu after a period of time being open.
I think the best alternative is to have a ‘Menu Button’ mode, which toggles this:
That way, you could have both submenu and tool without having to worry about double clicking.
Not too much has changed, I’ve added a settings dialog which opens on right click of the toolbox docker. On the second tab, you can change the submenu delay, and toggle a submenu button.
I haven’t gotten to fixing the scaling issues of secondary displays unfortunately, I’ll tackle that next. Have a go and let me know what you think!
Also, the toolbuttons may appear as a different style if you use Linux. I’ve had to use the default ‘fusion’ style because I’m on Windows, which doesn’t have ‘breeze’.
well so far I love the new submenu option versus the double click. It feels very intuitive and no problems fully resposive to my touch. So i have to say it works as designed.
Now I have not tried it on my other configuration since it has a secondary monitor display and your scaling issues are still unresolved. I will wait for your fix for that.
Meanwhile I think your toolkit is having a love affair with kanvas buddy. Since the two of them live all alone on my canvas.
well kinda… I set it up so that the main menu defaults to show in canvas mode only. From the main menu I turn on toolkit from the docker submenu and kanvas buddy from the script submenu. I assume that’s what @Mythmaker did as well.
Otherwise, in canvas only mode neither kanvas buddy nor toolkit would be available .
I’ve used this for a few days and I have to say that I love it! It’s nice to have all that space freed up in tablet mode
One isue i’ve noticed: I can’t seem to access submenus because the Windows Ink mechanic on microsoft tablets has it that long-pressing acts as a right-click. Meaning that the current mechanic for opening submenus is impossible without disabling Windows Ink (which would disable things like pen pressure, as far as I know).
If I can suggest a change to alleviate the situation: double pressing a button to open a sub-menu may fix the issue.
If you’ve downloaded v1.0.1, there should be a settings dialog box when you right click on the docker. The second tab of that dialog box, there will be a ‘Submenu Button’ checkbox. Click it, press OK and you should have a separate button for the submenu now .
I did try to have a double click mode, but there was a bug with Qt’s internal delay loop which caused some glitches if enabled.
Kanvasbuddy is usually visible on canvas only for me - I just open it from the scripts menu then toggle to canvas only.
The way I got this setup was to uncheck the hide dockers option in canvas only mode, then switched off all the dockers and toolbox, but left toolkit active. I saved this setup as a new workspace so I could easily switch between my standard layout and this new minimal one.
I re-activated the overview docker as an addition because I realised I had no indication of where I was on the canvas, or what the zoom level was - and couldn’t just toggle out to check.
I was going to suggest maybe adding a toggle for reference image visibility - but then I found I could assign a hotkey to that function.
Unfortunately for me kanvas buddy and toolkit don’t stay on canvas only mode for me when i toggle that’s why i keep the menu. Maybe i need to play with the settings a bit.
