You mean pick a color from a pixel of another image? Use the color sampler tool.
Sorry, I should have been clearer …
I mean for the brush to use the colour from a reference image and paint with that. A form of cloning.
Not colour picker.
Krita has a clone brush
But you can only sample from a layer not a reference image, so you would have to add your source image as a layer instead.
There is a default clone brush in the brush presets, you should be able to find it by typing clone in the brush presets docker’s search bar.
And the clone brush doesn’t have the expressiveness of the other brush engines, so it isn’t really suited to just scrubbing over an image to turn it into a painterly version. That’s Corel Painter’s main selling point, but it’s not really interesting to code up…
Thank you.
Thanks, Halla. Yes, you’ve understood what I was asking. I seem to remember it from earlier iterations of Krita, but, as you say, it is not something anyone sensible would want to code.
You could create an image with enough space to accommodate your canvas and reference to one side.
You can use any brushtip with the clone engine, but not the lightness features. You can emulate impasto effects though using layered effects with an appropriate brushtip. Values in the sampled area would also be applied - so the illusion of thickness could also occur that way.
I used a clone brush in the still-life images I posted a while ago, but I sampled a palette rather than an existing image. It might help to have a look at those, and the layered impasto explanation linked to in there if it’s relevant to what you want to achieve.
Thanks, Mythmaker, I’ll look at your examples, and thank you for your ideas.
Both Artrage and Rebelle have dedicated tools to do this (Corel Painter resides in the dark ages) but I want to move on to Krita as much as possible. Pat
