I wanted to share these brushes I’ve been working on for some times now!
I’m a concept artist working in the entertainment industry and I’ve always been amazed by the traditional look of these old concept art from the Disney renaissance era. Many of these artist would be using tools such as Copic and or Alcohol markers to make quick ideations and sketches. I’ve looked for a long time for a way to recreate these medium and with the power of Krita, I think I’ve finally been able to do so!
I will be adding more traditional tools in the future, but I’d just like to test the water to see if it’s something you guys would like me to share and if you enjoy these brushes!
You can download them here: Krita Wavenwater Traditional concept beta.zip - Google Drive
Here is a quick video that show how to best set up your canvas to replicate the paper quality of those traditional media:
Please let me know your thoughts and have fun Drawing!
Wet alpha blending mode is interesting, but what I would like the most is something similar to Mixbox which has been discussed here already Like a more refined darker mode with real pigment blending ^^
For me the ratio parameter is causing spacing to leave empty space. It might be a tablet pressure calibration thing. Because sometimes it’s less pronounced.
I installed your brush pack, wonderful work; however, the brush tips for the Wavenwater copic marker and the Wavenwater copic marker super brush are not in the bundle. This causes that I cannot use these brushes, but the Wavenwater Sakura Pigma Micro work perfectly. Is there another way that I can get the missing brush tips, on my end?
Thank you for your work, and I’m really excited to use these brushes!
@SirPigeonz Hey there! I’ve tried parallel blending mode, but to me it did nothing far different from the normal blending mode, I really didn’t see any change to the blending O.o… And also, Making concept art in a 32 bit image is a bit overkill haha so I’m sticking to 8 bit which is pretty much the standard.
@tachiko Hello there! That is weird, I’ve tested these on a cintiq 24HD and an intuos 4 with both the grip pen wacom pen and the art pen, both worked fine… It might have something to do with your tablet settings… here are my settings just in case:
I see. It does not draw and in rhe screenshots, next to the brush icon, there is no brush stroke, which is why it doed not draw on the canvas. Is thete a way to fix this?
Size is controlled by a Tilt input in such a way that if you use a mouse, or your stylus has no Tilt signal available, the Size is forced to zero.
You can disable the control by Tilt in the brush editor.
It’s not just Size that’s controlled by Tilt so you may want to look into disabling other Tilt controlled transfer curves in there to see what effect that has.
@LaTor@floydblue I just tested Mouse input just like @AhabGreybeard said and Yes, TILT is the problem. Getting rid of these parameters should enable you to enjoy the brush with whatever setting you would prefer
Thanks for the answers and for pointing this problem out!
Yes it is normal, it is a setting I’ve played with since alcohol markers don’t give the full saturation until you “build” the color, but I have modified it since as it didn’t make too much sense!
It is a beta afterall ^^
Just tick off the saturation setting and you should be good
Thanks for the feedback!
I noticed that it works when I remove tilt from the Size sensor; however, now when I use the brushes quickly, I do not seem to be getting the streaks that occur in your video. It seems more like I repeatedly clicked on the canvas since it shows the individual brush tip. Is this correct or is there a way to make it seem more as a dry brush effect?
Hmm well the result you are getting is probably due to the Opacity Fuzzy Dab setting
But after that, I’m starting to get lost, haha, The brush was intended to be used with a drawing tablet, so if the settings gets too much played with, I wouldn’t expect the same results as to what I have shown in my video :s
I hope you can fix this issue of yours
