Asset Marketplace

Krita has a large number of useful 3rd party assets, like brushes, plugins, gradients, etc.

But it is hard to locate them, especially for new users, and there is no easily discovered central place. Some are linked in the Krita docs, others here in the forum, others on 3rd party websites.

An asset marketplace (for lack of a better word) inside Krita itself would solve this, allowing users to upload, download and rate and/or comment assets.

This has been discussed before and the conclusion was that it would be a massive management and administrative load for people, whoever they might be.
Also, there would be many ā€˜junk’ assets and could even be malware plugins uploaded to it.

Could we make it as offshoot of the forum page? With a blanket disclaimer that Krita is not responsible for its contents. I know we already have the Resources categories but it’s hard to search for specific assets or browse. The forum already has a tags system so I think it would just be a matter or reorganizing the front end to show asset thumbnails better and make it searchable with ā€œasset tagsā€. The actual files would still have to be hosted in gumroad, Gdrive, etc but it would keep things much more organized and easy to find.

I fully understand and agree with the logic of what you’re proposing.
However, it would place a large and ongoing burden on the people who manage, administer and moderate the forum, or wherever the marketplace was provided and hosted; people who have more than enough to do already.

I could give examples of what could and would go wrong but I’ll leave it that.
You’ve created a Feature Request topic and people who have the authority and ability to create what you’ve asked for will be able to read it and consider it.

Thanks for the feedback, this was more or less what I assumed, but wanted to put it out there just in case.

Do you happen to have a link to the previous discussions, or a keyword to search for?

I tried searching for it before posting this, but came up empty, most probably because I do not know how the older suggestions called this feature.

I would be curious, and in case I ever want to try my own luck on a plugin for this at some point in time. Not very likely, because of lack of cpp skills, but who knows.

Unfortunately everyone calls it like they want or know it from other apps, so it is not easy to discover the topics, but alone here on Krita-Artists.org you can find a lot.¹

Maybe you want to read especially those following from here ↓, but I believe it is better reading it from the start ↑:

Hello @AhabGreybeard!

¹ And you could have to discover even more if some brainsick KDE admin had not shredded the old forum hosted on KDE.
Seems that person had not understood for what forums are: To preserve found solutions for all, and forever. I was totally upset as I discovered with one of my many visits in the old resource it was nearly completely deleted.

A mixture of my vague memory and some Search-fu gives me this topic:

There are sometimes very good reasons why things get deleted, or can’t stay online, and people also make mistakes. I would appreciate if we stay away from speculation about the state of some admin’s intellectual health.
