Brush Stabilization (More like Procreate)

One thing I really love about Procreate is its brush stabilization. I know Krita has it too, and its weighted brush mode is often very helpful for drawing outlines. But, its stabilization also works quite similarly unlike one that Procreate has.

 Hello @Sabriar and welcome to the forum!

I don’t know if you ever tried to use Krita’s brushes with the Dynamic Brush Tool instead of the Freehand Brush Tool and if you like that better?

But beside that, if this really should be a Feature Request, because it looks and feels much more like an expression of opinion, and it is lacking the information needed for a Feature Request.

That would be to elaborate in more detail what exactly is different between the modes of Krita’s Brush Smoothing and Procreates stabilization.
Furthermore, you should describe what you want from it in Krita and how you like to see it implemented?
The next thing to talk about are the advantages it could or would bring into Krita, beside having an additional Brush Smoothing option?
It is good to give examples in form of pictures, mockups, videos describing and or showcasing Procreates stabilization abilities and what you want from it in Krita.

We even have a paper describing the requirements to a Feature Request, if you want to take a look at it:

By the way, to show the developers how much a feature is demanded by the community, we have a voting system that gives us the opportunity to cast our votes for the features we want to see in a future version of Krita. Therefor, every user has a pool of votes, and in case one of the Feature Request’s the user voted for gets implemented, that vote goes back into that user’s pool of votes. You can also withdraw a vote, in case you ran out of available votes and want to cast a vote for a feature you like more than the one you “grab” that withdrawn vote from.

Thanks.

Yes, I tried the Dynamic Brush tool and it was quite good for drawing a straight or a curved line but it was not exactly what I wanted. I also wanted that to be used for something in between (curved and straight). For example a shape like “J”

I was expecting something like this: https://youtu.be/oorJ-RGlq1k
A stable control over my draw-line with autocorrection. Krita somewhat has this feature for vector drawing but I wish we had this for raster drawing as well.

However, I am loving Krita a lot already. I have been using it for a month, a new user actually. So, if there’s something I missed, please let me know.

Have you seen this one yet?

As far as stabilization is concerned, you have already discovered the available options. Well, maybe apart from the stabilization of the MyPaint brushes?

To search for these in your Krita, open the Brush Editor via its toolbar icon or F5. Then click on a small arrow icon pointing to the left (below the brush icon) at the top left of the Brush Editor, if the brush presets view is not yet expanded there. You will then have two drop-down menus, the upper one allows you to narrow down the selection of brush presets to be displayed for each brush engine available in Krita. You have to select MyPaint that is at the bottom (as it is the most recently added engine), the lower one is for further narrowing via tags, let or set it to “All”, because we currently don’t know about the possible tags.

For MyPaint brushes, stabilization must be set in the brush settings. You can look them up in more detail in Krita’s manual, which is well written and worth reading, the settings are described here in this chapter:

And since Krita itself only comes with a few MyPaint brushes, I would like to introduce you to the following mega-collection by @fizzyflower, MyPaint brushes en masse can be found in the first two posts of the following topic:

And don’t forget to click on the fields hiding further information and brushes in @fizzyflower’s posts, they are marked with a triangle at the beginning of the line. Like this one ↓

You can find more MyPaint brushes in our resource category, but not only in the bundles that refer to MyPaint brushes by name, there are also MyPaint brushes in other bundles.

I doubt that this function will be added as another brush smoothing option in the near future, given the current donation situation and the currently very small team of developers, because there are already two methods. There are currently some much more important milestones, such as the switch (one version upwards) to the API version “Qt 6.0”.

PS: I hope I haven’t made too many mistakes, I’m very tired, sorry.

Is there a topic to read about this in detail?

Yes, there is, why do you ask?

A simple search on “voting” or “vote” in our forum category Site Feedback for topics regarding the forum would have given you this topic beside others.
You may want to read this posting, but it will be better to read the whole topic. Additionally, this topic is worth reading, because the topics belong together.
