Info on XP-Pen compatibility

Hi!

I am new to the forum and wondered if someone could help me please.

Is Krita compatible with an XP-Pen 22R Artist Pro?

Can you animate and draw with Krita?

What editing software is compatible with an XP-Pen 22R Artist Pro?

What after effect software is compatible with this tablet?

What sound affect software to add to videos is compatible with this tablet?

Hi

I can’t answer to all question.
But Krita work perfectly with XP-Pen Artist 13v2, XP-Pen Artist 16 pro, XP-Pen Artist 16 pro gen2, XP-Pen Artist 24 pro
So it hsould work with XP-Pen 22R Artist pro.

You can animate with Krita.
Also as Krita is free, the best things is to test it by yourself to check if it match your needs

I don’t understand the question.
After Effect is an Adobe product.
So I’m not sure what a “After Effect” software is, except After Effect itself…

Also here I’m not sure to understand the question.
A tablet like this one is like a monitor.
It’s like asking if any software is compatible with a monitor?
Or you mean you want to use the pen to manage sound stuff?

Welcome to the Krita forum, @Starbright.

Some of these question don’t seem to have anything to do with Krita. Have you tried asking in a forum for XP-Pen?

@Grum999 Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

What I meant is - is there any software that I can download that allows you to attach a specific sound affect to a specific animation sequence, that works with the XP-Pen 22R Artist Pro, I ask this as some software companies are not compatible with XP-Pen tablets for some reason.

I am also not sure whether something like adobe after effects, that I assume add something more to your animation would work with my tablet or not.

All software are compatibles if you use it as a monitor.
If you want to use the pen like you use the mouse, there’s normally no problem but sincerely, use a mouse in this case
Using a pen for all usual tasks on a UI other than drawing is awful (whatever the tablet, not just for Xp-Pen)

You can use Natron, but same remark than above: you’ll prefer to use keyboard+mouse for that.

Using a pen is really great for drawing, but to use a UI, no.

 Hello @Starbright and welcome to the forum!

As @Grum999 already mentioned it, yes you can draw, sketch and animate with Krita, and there are users that create the most beautiful works using Krita*.

A tablet is an input device, like a mouse, a touchpad, a trackball for instance, your version is an input device which also has a display, if I am not mistaken. But you should be able to handle most programs with it. If it makes sense to operate a certain software via a tablet is a different question, most programs are designed for mouse or touchpad use, but a program like Krita, that is mainly made for painting, sketching, animating can be used very comfortable with a graphics tablet and a stylus, but most users additionally use their mouse or keyboard for some tasks, but also special input-controllers are not seldom used beside a keyboard or mouse, here I presented a few:

Audio software, like DAW’s can also be handled with a graphics tablet, especially with pen displays this may be advantageous (but one should use the largest models available for comfortable use), but I never tested this and used my mouse and keyboard to handle my DAW and all the plugins (instruments and compressor, phaser, reverb, etc.) I use with it.

So, you can handle most of the tasks with an XP-Pen 22R Artist Pro, but if it is always the better solution is questionable.

*here you’ll find a few examples of the possibilities Krita offers, all made by users of this forum:

Early Morning Shower

The only things needed are Krita, a computer capable of running Krita, some input devices, like your XP-Pen 22R Artist Pro for instance, time, passion and of course the will to practice, practice, practice, and not to be forgotten the will to practice, practice, …

@Michelist Thank you for taking the time to respond to me.

I have downloaded Krita and I am able to draw using it.

However I wondered if you know why my tablet does the following.

I connect the cables to the back of my tower and my tablet and when I turn my tablet on it just says “no signal” and goes straight into sleep mode.

Still despite this it still registers my pen so that I can draw with it, as I see the marks on the screen.

Does this mean that there is something wrong with the HDMI port or is it something else?

Also I tried to make it so that I can see what is on the screen on the tablet so that I do not have to keep peeking over the top of it.

I did this by pressing the windows icon and p at the same time and clicking duplicate but when I click duplicate the menu does not disappear and it does not allow me to see exactly what is on the screen.

I don’t know whether this helps but I checked to see if my XP-Pen driver is up to date and it says it is, I really don’t understand what is going wrong. :sob:

@Michelist Also can you port sound affects from an app called epidemic sound to Krita for an animation video?

Audio/sound in krita is done by adding an audio file using .mp3 or .wav files.
Krita doesn’t know where the audio file came from, it’s an audio file.

You need to provide an audio file, .mp3 or .wav, using whatever audio recording facilities you have on your computer or by exporting from the application that has the audio.

Regarding your question about the function of your XP-Pen 22R Artist Pro, I can’t tell you much. If it is a newly purchased graphics tablet, then the probability that the supplied cable could have a defect is low but not impossible, with a used tablet this would be more conceivable, but if you use a third-party cable, for example to have a longer cable and thus more freedom of movement, this is very often the fault, because these pen tablets place incredibly high demands on the cable quality. So if you use a third-party cable, make sure that it meets the HDMI standard required by XP-Pen and that it is a very, very high-quality cable. It is not very likely, but you could check if there is any dust in the socket of your graphics card (and also look in the plug, a possible dust lint may have been pushed from the socket into the plug).

If it is not due to a third party cable, I would ask you to discuss this topic with XP-Pen support first, your tablet is in a price segment where XP-Pen cannot be indifferent to a customer having difficulties with their product.

Beyond that, I can hardly answer questions about your XP-Pen 22R Artist Pro, as I have never owned a pen tablet myself and probably never will. Due to the evolution of this topic, more and more towards a support request, I will now move it to the appropriate forum section Input Device Support.

It may be necessary to move it further to General Questions, or possibly split the topic into different topics, as you have unfortunately placed questions on different topics here, which is suboptimal, so please post future questions on new issues in the appropriate categories of our forum. But I hope we can continue this here in a reasonably organized way, just please don’t add any more topics here.

Regarding the audio signal from the application/website you mentioned, the signal/audio (whatever) has to be tapped somehow or downloaded from there. However, you cannot stream this audio on-the-fly into Krita, it must be transferred as a whole file, or as several files.
But I can’t be more specific, because I’m not going to allow tons of scripts and agree to cookies for something I’ll never use, just so I can give you an answer based on the information I find there. The website is too shamelessly collecting data for me.

Hi

If you already have a monitor (I guess yes), by plug the tablet you add a second monitor.
Then you have to tell your OS (Windows, Linux, MacOs?) there’s a second monitor and setup it.

Usually it’s made automatically.

What are the settings of display monitors in your system?

Grum999

I have an MSI Optix G24 Series gaming pc.

I have an XP-Pen 22R Artist Pro.

The DC power cable fits in perfectly.

However the Type-C cable and the HDMI go in but the metal silver part still shows on these two cables and they wobble somewhat whereas the DC power cable does not do this at all.

Is this why all my drawing tablet does is say “no signal” and go straight into sleep mode?

Is this also why when I press the windows icon and p together, try to click duplicate so I can see on my drawing tablet screen, what I see on my gaming pc on the menu that pops up and it does nothing?

I have tried pushing it in further but it doesn’t go in any further.

Would smaller cables work?

Hi there, maybe someone has this tablet and can speak from experience. I only saw the product photos and it looks like normal monitor ports.

One thing that comes to mind is the thickness of the plastic/rubbery part of the cable. If your plugs are thick, maybe they press against the back of the tablet and try to go in at an angle instead of directly into the port. If that is the case, don’t push harder! You may damage the device. Instead try to find another cable, that has a less thick plug. It should still be the same metal part size. Only the “grip” of the cable can be different.

Full-sized HDMI should go in fairly easily and “latch on”, and without any wobble afterwards. Try another cable.

As for USB-C, the length of the metal end can vary, you could maybe test this cable on your phone or other device to see how it feels and looks when you plug it. Again, even if the metal part is visible after plugging in, there’s no way it could wobble.

@AhabGreybeard, @raghukamath, @sooz: Can you merge this topic with this Info on XP-Pen compatibility topic please, they are about one and the same issue?

@Starbright: Please do not open new topics for a problem that is directly related to your original topic and questions asked there. It does not help to spread the information throughout the forum and only makes it more difficult and complicated to help you with your issue. This is because it destroys the context for those helping you.
