Your story is so inspiring! Glad you are here!
Hello All,
My name is James Suderman, I am a software developer from Fort Worth, Texas, but have been drawing off an on throughout my life. I have recently been intrigued with digital painting and with Krita. I am impressed with Krita from an artist point of view, but also a software developer perspective. Iām not really a social poster, but thought Iād see what this community is all about as I am doing more digital art recently. I already see a lot of great art and friendly people.
missed this thread til nowā¦thanks for all the intros and infos!!
Kenny A. Chaffin began life as a single celled organism inside his motherās body after a night of lustful sex under the H.S. Football bleachers. He grew up on a black-dirt farm in southern Oklahoma reading superhero comics, science and science fiction, and just wishing to be out, to be somewhere else, to be someone else. His wish was partially granted not by a genie, but by a good GPA and student loans for college where he smoked a lot of dope, did a lot of drugs, managed the student store, met his future wife and dropped out to become a janitor cleaning up after Art students. Having had enough of that he followed his future wife to the Rocky Mountains, got a degree in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and spent a lifetime in the soul-crushing Corporate Computer World before telling them to stick it and became a poet.
ā¦ohā¦wait⦠you mean more about art I betā¦
so yeah, been in electronics and science all my lifeā¦ham radio operator since early teensā¦
did some drawing of comic book characters when I was in High School about that same ageā¦
got back to visual art via getting into web coding/building/design in the early 1990ās began using photoshop and a multitude of other tools web and image editors⦠always appreciated fine art and the mastersā¦got more into digital art some of the web work and then independently with various paintings or stuff⦠Since I was focusing on fine art type stuff (not web/internet pages) I ran across Painter ā¦in itās original incarnation by Fractal Design and through various manifestations ⦠even up to upgrading the Corel version this year. Began using a Wacom tablet with Painter.
Spent the last 30 years or so learning to draw (mostly portraits) in pencil something Iād always wanted to do so committed to it in the mid/late 90ās and posted and āstudiedā with some of the best drawers on the internet forums for many many years. Have a few in progress pieces on my drawing desk next to my computer at this very moment.
Ran across Krita a few years back but did do much with it the first year or so other than try it out and fiddle around. Got more serious a couple of years ago did some comparisons between Painter and Krita and committed to the Krita way. Open source, free, etc.
I am not a commercial artistā¦just do it for me.
Have also been a writer since foreverā¦did a lot of technical writing in one variation of my Engineering Career for the Bell System (U.S. West) and got into fiction writing (science fiction writing primarily originally) and got a few minor things published. Tried to make a living from article/fiction writing but could not make it work more than a few years and went back into the web/internet/electronics business. These days I write primarily poetry and flash fiction.
Now it seems I just paint birds in Krita. LOL!
You can see much of my past work - graphite, Painter, and Krita on my Deviant Art site - https://www.deviantart.com/kennyc

Welcome to the forum @jamessuderman.
Been lurking for a bit in the forums. But helloo- I go by Briar on the internet. I doodle a lot of stuff and rarely finish serious pieces. I do a lot of fandom stuff (but maybe soon Iāll make more original content)
Might post some of my own brushes or enter some competitions here and there.
Been drawing since I was 7 and hoping to be a game asset artist or an animator since Iām going to college very soon. Funnily enough, I heard of Krita from an ex-friend that was very insistent I get Krita instead of Procreate (to a veryā¦disrespectful extent) but I checked Krita out anyway and safe to say, I donāt regret checking it out.
the doodleās not my usual style but i like to think itās just a silly thing i do sometimes
I hope to contribute some stuff to Krita in the future (like brushes and color palettes, themes or try my hand at coding a plugin) and participate in the forums some more.
Nice doodle! Why not colour it and enter the Halloween Art Party?
Hi everybody. Really new to digital art and Krita - a week or so . I am Shroomy and I am still getting a hang of this
but so far I love it. Processing: egs.jpg⦠I know isnāt Halloween themed but this is something I have done since I start using Krita - I know there is a lot that needs to be improved so hopefully I will be able to share a really good piece of my art later on. Nice meeting you all.
Welcome to the community @Shroomy
I think your image did not get uploaded when you posted it.
Welcome! Enjoy!
thank you.
Hello Iām KingsRey2010 and Iām fairly new to krita and itās actually the 1st art program Iāve used and the only one I use till this day. Iām new to the forum and want to make some friends even if they arent intrested in what I do. I draw like a 6 year old even though Iāve been drawing since I was 8 years old and I love water color outsude of digital art and enjoy animating even if it looks like garbage. Iām in my pre-teens and Iām always looking for that next tip or trick to be unique. My favorite color is light blue and my favorite art program is KRITA.
Nice to have you among us, @KingRey.
Hello, Iām Carre, another artist since childhood. I grew up with art and painting happening around me often, though never had any formal training or hard education for it, so Iām somewhat self-taught. Iām also fluent in French, though I donāt often chat in writing in french.
As for digital art tools, I began with Art Dabbler as a kid, then Flash, with a few other short stops on other programs until I found Krita, which Iāve enjoyed using for years by now.
Iām also familiar with a few other programs, such as Inkscape for vector and design, Blender for 3D or compositing, and LMMS for music, and I do a bit of coding occasionally.
I sometimes use other names, or variants on āCarreā on other sites, so finding me elsewhere could be a little hard, which might be a blessing and a curse. I donāt know how frequently I might post, but I figure since I use Krita so often, both recreationally and professionally, my odds of posting here are higher than in other places.
Hello, Iāve been reading the forum since I started using krita on Linux, Iām really grateful to the developers and the community for everything that they do⦠Krita is awesome! Iām a hobbyist in art - although it has always been my passion, there have been periods when I didnāt draw for years (life is sometimes too tiring, we forget to do the things we love). Iāve been using Krita for two years, planning on using it till the end of my dayās! Iām working in healtcare, living somewhere in the Balkansā¦
Welcome to the community @Drekavac
This will be the last description of me or thing this community will hear from me in a long time⦠Please help, support, and interact with the amazing community has gotten just like I did.
farwell, from a dear krita lover KingReyā¦
Stay safe KingRey! Hope your time away wonāt be as long as you think.
Hey KingRey, I see you are back again.
Two days may seem like a long time, but I still donāt think it merits a āfarewellā. Itās more like a āsee you laterā time span.
