Krita 5.2.2 update 'Fatal Error' on chromebook

Hello! First time here, so sorry if I’m asking this in the wrong place…

I updated Krita recently, and now it won’t open. The app will boot up, but before the usual open screen appears I’ll instead receive the message box “Your application encountered a fatal error and cannot continue” and will shut down right after.

The same thing is happening to me! I made an account to ask this exact same question.

@Mystic_Manticore23 and @John_Iwu

Are you both using Linux versions?

If yes, if you are not using the official appimage from Krita, please try that. Download it from krita.org and make it an executable file.

There are many reports lately from repo versions of Krita, not maintained or distributed by Krita, that are not starting properly.

Im not sure about John, but the version I’ve downloaded is from the google play store

Does anyone know how to fix an issue on the google play version of Krita. Every time I’ve opened the app it keeps on telling me that “Your application encountered a fatal error and cannot continue”. I use a chromebook for my laptop and the specific model I have is a ACER Chromebook 314. One day the application was working perfectly fine but the next time I tried getting into the app it hit me with that error message.

Hi Amaan, I am having the same problem. Have had Krita for ages, used it two days ago, then yesterday I got the above message. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, installing an older version, restarting my Galaxy Tab A. Nothing is working. Hopefully we get an answer for a fix. Cheers

Was there a Android update or something? Strange that both of you encounter this suddenly basically at the same time.

Hi Takiro, not for me. Happened out of the blue.

Please fix this I have an animation project I have been working on thats stored in the app

Im having the same problem aswell sob

The Android app just got updated on Google Play. Prior to the 5.2.2, Google Play offered 5.1.5.

I don’t know if this will help, but here’s a link to 5.1.5 Android APK’s. I’m unsure which one Chrome users would select.

Sorry to hear of this.

Was my reply to you in this post helpful at all?

If you have an x86 chromebook, I suggest loading up crostini and using the desktop linux version of Krita instead of the Google Play Android version, especially since you are doing animation

Another way could be to use the Linux AppImage on your Chromebook. I don’t know if it can directly run on Android or how to make it work on a Chromebook, but I know that not few do exactly this, because the Linux AppImage “is the “full version of Krita” and not a limited subset of options like the Android version”, but I have no idea how to prepare your Chromebook beforehand, if that is easy or not.

Yeahh im having the same problem and i dont know why

Last time I tried to download krita with linux, it did not work to have pen pressure so thats why i cant use it sadly

We have had the same problem on our chrome books. We are using Chrome OS build 123.0.6312.94. The Krita app was on 5.1.5 and working just fine. It updated to 5.2.2 and will not open. It has a window open with the following text, “Your application encountered a fatal error and cannot continue.” Any guidance to help solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I am also having this issue, with the same popup before the application shuts itself down. I’m running the Google Play Store version of Krita on ChromeOS Version 123.0.6312.112; it was working just fine prior to the 5.2.2 update.

Updating to 5.2.2 seems to be the common factor.

A thought: Previous versions are available in the ‘Attic’ with .apk files for various CPU types:
KDE - Experience Freedom!

Would it be wise/sensible to uninstall 5.2.2 then sideload an .apk for a previous version?
Right now I should say that I don’t know the answer to that question.

Note: 5.1.5 is not in the attic. It was a bugfix release for Android:
Krita 5.1.5 Released

We should report this as a bug on bugs.kde.org. If you have access to the logs please provide them too.
