Clip Studio Paint moving to a subscription model for version 2.0

This topic is turning into a ragbag of, “How do I do X?, How do I do Y?, Why can’t I do Z?”.

When I started using krita, I assumed that I’d have to spend time and effort learning how to use it, in the same way that I had to do with every other application that I’d ever started to use. So I did.

This forum is very good for providing help and advice but people really need to do it in an orderly way, by creating a separate topic for each item they need help and advice about.

Apart from that, there’s also the search facility and the manual which is very well written.

Oh yes, the krita developers have a responsibility to look after you and make sure life is easier for you.

Dude, I’m not ragging on the program. I see a lot of people doing great work with it. And I’m not attacking anybody personally.

I’m just overwhelmed at the steep learning curve. And I certainly never said the devs were obligated to cater to my own personal whims. That’s why I said “in my opinion” and not “the devs better do this to please me.” I am fully aware that I am not a dev, and that I don’t know what all is involved in the process.

But if you want me to stop talking about this, fine. I guess I’m done here. Thank you all for the concern and being as helpful as possible.

Use Alpha Inheritence then, it’s pretty much the same.

The Krita communities approach always was to make things better for Krita users first and not to think too much what users from other Softwares might want. When the clip-o-calipse happens that’s bad for CSP users but not the responsibility of Krita’s developers and it’s community.

What I would like is for you (and anybody) to ask for help/advice by creating a New Topic with a suitable title and a single subject area that you need help/advice about.
The topic we’re in now is of no practical use for anybody except for the people who may have asked a particular question here and may have got a suitable answer that helps them.

still in the plans, you might be able to be part of its development. one of the devs Wolthera want to tackle it. See Developer Update

As for clipping layer, theres a talk/ development going on right now. its to the point of deciding what icon, positioning and activation mode will use.
OTH you can do it - by Alpha inheritance grouping , who knows you might enjoy using the krita way of “clipping”.

As for the clip features - feel free to read the latest dev update (released before the clipocalypse announcement). CSP is consider by the devs as its most direct competitor.

There are a lot of development going on right now. Unlike closed sourced software, here you’ll development happening right on the thread as we debate short of throwing virtual pens and chair, and compromise and talk about how to make the requested feature.

If you want to have more clip like feature - search if someone feature requested it and vote that and comment preferably with vid so we know how its done there. (Saying do it like clip, i dont how that works i dont have csp - so a vid will help us visualize. Who knows its something we want to). or make a feature request thread.

Here is the last compilation of forum development last month.
This does not include the ones happened after Aug 16. [since there’s quite alot, like tiar just posted something right after i posted that lol)

Feel free to chime in , in the development section. You dont need to be a programmer to join - just giving your opinion and mockup and example is already helpful.

It’s hard to say - hey get this clip like feature. When most of us probably clueless how that really works - if you give your insight, maybe we can make it close to what you think it should be (with compromise ofcourse because user of x,y,z and krita would probably their words too). ^-^

Problem with clipping layer in Krita is that it does it differently than any other software and that means its incompatible with any other software. If collaboration with other people is important its absolute, ultimate deal-breaker.

Hey, dont scare off the newbie. She (ill just assume, im sorry cause too long to put she/he) is literally just land here nicely. She obviously still dont know how to properly use this forum. Should she ask in a new topic or just chat and ask in one related topic. Just tell her the rules nicely. She did say she tried krita but cant find some stuffs so she asked, let other people who want to help her to help. I know that we all want to recommend krita and let the communities grow, so let be more patience and understanding to the newcomers.

It is a fact that I’m a grumpy old man and that is not going to change anytime soon.
However, I will try to be more ‘nice’ in future

Hahaha okay…

That Is why I said THERE IS A TALK and ongoing DEVELOPMENT and I even link that thread because I know it’s important. The other comment is more of for the mean time you can try this.

I even link the thread… So you can participate in developing it… and im getting talk like this :frowning:
I just tried being approachable while linking an important development that i know you all want to participate.

If you want the kind of clipping mask the best way is to participate in designing it, which i link the thread to. The latest weekly even gave a target timeline of 5.2.

Drink some tea dood  There is difference between something being available and posibly being available in some random time in the future.

Basically the same feeling
I’m wondering when Photoshop users will start to fight with CSP user about what krita should be to fit their own habit needs…

Giving an alternative to proprietary software is a good thing
Trying to improve software according to users feedback is a good thing

But what I’m afraid or is, it seems some users switch to Krita not because they’re convinced the software is good or because the open source phylosophy is interesting, but just because their lovely software has changed of business model

I really hope Krita will be able to kept his own way of doing things and won’t start to be a melting pot of PS/CSP stuff (even if these softwares have good functionnalities and interesting Idea about how they’re could be implemented…)

As I had said elsewhere, people just want free stuff, and they tend to don’t think about anything else. if someone gives them free csp clone they will cling to that. There is no user freedom, philosophy and all that thing in anyone elses mind despite repeated being bitten by proprietary software.

I can understand that New comers want to configure things like they’re used to have in PS/CSP or whatever the software they’re coming from
Especially if the software is their tool for paid work

But there’s a difference between trying to configure some UI stuff, shortcuts and some key modifiers, with considering as the software don’t have exactly what other softwares provides, it’s not usable and must implement exactly what proprietary softwares does

Clearly, all users leaving PS or CSP due to business model won’t help in any way Krita to implement what they want: currently Krita funds is not really high : 428 monthly donator
Does people leaving a monthly paying model will participate to a monthly fund donate program?
I’m not sure

What I mean is I prefer to see paid developpers working on Real useful things with these donations rather than working on stuff just used by users only interested by a free clone of their favorite software…

We usually use the “e” key for that, you can change the keyboard shortcut to be the “c” key like in Clip.

I think this plugin would help you a lot:

Krita does not use groups of tools but I think this plugin can help you, it adds shortcuts for 3 types of brushes, one is the eraser, the other 2 can be for whatever you want, as well as in clip it remembers which brush you used for each shortcut .

If I remember correctly you can modify the plugin to put more shortcuts in case you want to use more different brushes, I could help you with that if you like.

An apology if some comments sound aggressive, at first when I joined it felt a bit like that but you can really misunderstand a person’s humor when you only read what they wrote.

If you have more questions you can create a new topic and several of us will be willing to help C:

What is natural is to adapt yourself to the new program instead. Making the new program conform to what you already know is like expecting a 3d app to work like Microsoft Word…

But yeah I am sure everyone here has heard these CSP complaints before in the forum about the deal breakers stuffs from previous CSP users it is nothing new. As they say in my country “não quer não come” that translates if you don’t want you don’t eat.

I think people from proprietary software are not aware of the “I don’t give a shit” TOS from open source in general. Each project is what it is and complaining the food is better in another payed restaurant will do nothing because you will never be a lost customer so deal breakers are only a customer problem really. You got your food for free you eat or you don’t.

However unlike proprietary programs in krita they can acctually change it to serve their needs but I know all of these new artists all say “oh but I am not a dev/programmer” talk repeated adnausium just like their complaints of not having good quality features. I am also not a programmer and I did the stuff I wanted.

I think this so called apocalipse for most them is only karma coming back in my personal opinion. I never had a positive interaction with a CSP user because most are just so damn full of themselves. I think these CSP users were the old annoying PS users from a while back that did the same exact thing.

And hearing now their cries filled with demands do not sit on me well is just sad.

I think that this a great opportunity to bring people to support Krita and what you all do is push them off. Yes, they will ask for a lot of things, and we need to explain calmly how these things works in Krita and etc, we need to convert them for the cause independent of the motives that bring them here.

Aliás, você é br? @EyeOdin.
