Feedback thread for the featuring process

Use this thread for giving feedback for the new feature image proposal system. Please let us know whow we can improve it or make any changes to it for better system.

I have no questions on the subject of image selection, but the widget would be nice to bring to the previously mentioned form: for example, the output of three images added to the featured recently, and the output of three random images from the previously added. As I understand it is a kind of plugin for the forum, it would be nice to be able to configure the administrator slots, individually.
Or even further automate the process, in the form of: “by default” each slot outputs a random (or rather from queue to minimize repetitions) image from 3-6 hours replacement, and when adding a new “featured” such “free slot” is engaged with this image for ~200 hours (in this case all 6 slots can be occupied by fresh images) and at the end of time to switch to “default” mode.

I doubt that it will have such flexibility currently it should show the image which has been tagged with #featured tag recently. I will still ask the developer of the plugin for the bug I doubt however they will implement what we are asking.

Regarding the image selection process. We currently have user nominating and suggesting topics. And based on likes we are featuring. Should we wait for 24 hrs period or when do you all think should a proposal be accepted. Also when we discuss the proposal does it bother that the critiques or discussion is not anonymous as sometimes the members whose artwork has been proposed can see the proposal. if not being anonymous bothers then does it impact the comments and discussion?

My suggestion was to use a poll, better than like:

  • can put a deadline (in my mind 24hrs is too short, let 3-4days vote open)
  • anonymous vote
  • allows to manage a score (if score is to low, not featured…)

Also, I saw some suggestion topics with more than one proposal: I think there’s should be only one proposal per topics, easier to manage

The member who initiates the topic need to add the poll right and they need to choose if votes should be shared or not. I like the process. We can adopt it. If the member doesn’t initiate the poll may be moderator can add a comment with the poll.

Hi

I like the poll with emoji you’ve made here:

Maybe the I don’t know is missing:

:man_shrugging: 0

It allows you to vote even if you’re not Yes! or not No!, and also allows to get more voters (people who don’t care can vote then :blush:)

I think you can also define a complete predefined template for new topics created in the category:

Hi,

I want to propose this topic to be featured:
https://krita-artists.org/t/xxxxxxx

[poll type=regular results=on_close chartType=bar close=XXXX-XX-XXTXX:00:00.000Z]
* ♥️ +2
* 👍 +1
* 🤷 =0
* 👎 -1
* 😐 -2
[/poll]

> Don't forget to update poll close date `XXXX-XX-XXTXX:00:00.000Z`

And let a topic be closed at most, 7days after being opened (after 7days max, vote and decision should be made for being featured or not)

How the votes should be calculated? Less than 50% positive no feature?

There’s 5 votes possibility

If we take this one in example:

Using factor to ponderate average
(2x50 + 1x42 + 0x8 + -1x0 + -2x0)/5 = 28.4

With

  • Max = 2*100/5 = 40
  • Min = -2*100/5 = -40

I think a strict positive score with at least 3 voters could be enough?
or maybe a minimal score of 5.0 with at least 3 voters could be enough?

To me, this proposal feels right.

Currently the featured tag shows up as per the post creation date and sometimes it shows up as per new edit on the post. I will try to report this to the plugin developer.

Meanwhile please keep suggesting and voting for the featured images.

A long time ago I got the feedback that I did not feature anime style images. It was not because I think anime style is not good or is low effort, I love anime style and I watch a lot of anime :slight_smile: , It was because we didn’t have that much anime style submission back then and I might have missed them. I might have overlooked some nice ones that would be really worthy of a feature. Fortunately now we have this new system to suggest featured image so we can rectify this disparity in the featured section. Please suggest a variety of styles and if anime is under represented please suggest that too.

Pinging people who in my opinion and wild guess might like anime style and have noticed it here - @Rakurri @Konayachi @Lynx3d @loentar @Montie @RavioliMavioli

I will clarify “editing the last message in the topic” if they exist.

I think it’s a nice initiative to get more varied and more anime-inspired art on featured! :blush:
I haven’t been very active with commenting and posting here lately because of bachelor game/thesis work, but I have visited most days and really enjoyed the wider variety of work in the featured header lately! It seems to be working, the header has been more interesting than ever in my opinion!

Thanks, It is good to know that it is working. And I hope we get many more genres and styles on the featured image section. Please feel free to suggest any artwork you think is worthy to be featured :+1:t4:

I hope we get more anime styled artwork and perhaps not only anime but more varied styles in the featured so that nobody wrongly assumes this is only limited to realistic or anime. I hope the community participates more we are already getting really good suggestions.

@Grum999 I am still trying to figure out how to gauge the results, until now all the results seem more or less on the positive side and I believe people are hesitant to cast negative votes. Do negative vote options work? Will anyone put negative points to any of the suggestions considering the suggestion will mostly be of best of the submissions on KA

I think you’re probably right. I suspect people are more likely to not vote rather than vote negatively, so you’ll likely always end up with a positive result. :thinking:

Yeah I suspect that is the case and in that case every suggestion will be featured unless we compare score of multiple suggestions. We might need to come up with some other mechanism in addition to voting in future. right now it is going well but I see only positive votes.

For me it would be no problem to give a negative vote. But so far I had no reason to give a negative vote, but I didn‘t gave always full points.

What if nominations were held in a queue until we had 3 nominations, at which point voting would decide which one of the 3 would be featured?
