What are basic brushes to use when drawing and painting?
In you put the word âbasicâ in the search box at the bottom of the preset docker, youâll see a nice selection. One of my favourites from that group is Basic-5 Size. It provides solid coverage and the size is pressure sensitive.
Thanks!
Sorry, this answer will not satisfy you, but it is the most honest, accurate one I can give you.
Itâs the brushes you feel comfortable with.
There are artists who use only one or two brushes, others use masses of brushes, and still they achieve the best results, at the same technical level. Just take the Krita brushes in turn and try them out. Find out if a brush suits you, play with them.
I recently, on an unfinished painting, painted an entire mountain with a brush that was intended by its creator for rippling water surfaces. I used it to paint both the rock structures and snow, only adjusting size and opacity as I painted. At that moment, it was the best brush I could imagine for it. I think you understand what Iâm trying to tell you with this, donât you?
But just to give you a few worthwhile sets anyway: When it comes to watercolor, @Pesiâs and @Jack_The_Vultureâs bundles are tops. For pencils and colored pencils, no one can get around @RamonMâs SK1 & SK2 bundles, they are the benchmark. Also great for sketching is the âJarry H. Line Brush Setâ this is the DOWNLOADLINK. @emilm made an absolute stroke of genius with the âRotating light brushtipsâ! For concept art (and more), I think the bundles from @fizzyflower and @Rakurri are genius. Also recommended, the bundle of @Odzuki, best read through the whole topic, the brushes are described and partly demonstrated there!
And with the equally excellent brushes that Krita comes with by default, you now have even more confusion at your disposal than before, with many (most?) coming from @Deevad. You find his 2023-Bundle here, by the way.
I apologize now to all those I have not mentioned, although they deserved it, but it must also have an end.
@sooz, very good idea!

Thank u for the advice! I must check out those brushes!
Hey man! What a list. ![]()
By the way have you tried radianâs brushes for mountains and snow? They are amazing. I need to look samples images
Iâm happiest when I have a ton of brushes to wade through! Where are those brushes @RamonM ?
Then check out the following posts of mine, youâll find tons of brushes there. Test 5 pieces a day, then you have years of entertainment ![]()
But in the contributions are also some resources repeatedly listed. If you need more after that, Iâll have to filter out the previous posts to offer you more new resources, something like âWayne Parker - Artmessiahs Krita Presetsâ thatâs a link to the download page of a good set of older brushes for Krita, since it was made for an old Krita version not every brush works, but most of them.
I hope this does not drown you in brushes, and youâll check back here in the forum from time to time.
